Up 'till the end from the 1800s yellow sapphire was referred to as “oriental topaz”j (only blue corundum was called sapphire). Nevertheless yellow and greenish yellow sapphires make unusual and attractive gemstones themselves.
In Queensland and Nsw (Australia), a greenish yellow sapphire is located which may be faceted. Similar stones happens to Thailand, and purely yellow stones in Sri Lanka, Montana (USA), and East Africa.
Formerly yellow sapphire was also known as "oriental topaz".
